The Problem We’re Starting With

Our first focus is on Online Marketplaces. As supply aggregators, marketplaces must also aggregate product data from their different suppliers. However most suppliers send their product data in spreadsheets, PDFs, and sometimes even email screenshots (yes, really). This data is usually significantly incomplete; so marketplaces have to find ways to fill the data gaps (either manually or by building scraping capabilities). Additionally, each supplier’s data is in a different data structure, with fields incompatible with one another. This is such an ongoing challenge that marketplaces hire operations teams to manually standardize the various datasets. The entire process is broken: it’s slow, inaccurate and operationally intensive. All of this results in poor search results, duplicate products, and irrelevant recommendations. In other words, frustrating shopping experiences for users.

What We’re Building

Koya is working closely with a select few fast-growing marketplaces. We leverage Machine Learning to help marketplaces clean, normalize, and enrich their product data. Instead of needing to build in-house scrapers or email catalog PDFs back-and-forth, a marketplace will simply use Koya’s e-commerce data layer. We are building the infrastructure for marketplaces to seamlessly integrate product data with all their suppliers.

Koya’s offering has two components: the Data Engine and the customer-facing Product Platform. Our Platform product is how we envision our customers will interact with Koya, helping them share feedback critical to improving our ML models, gain a better understanding of their product data, and manage usage. Our data science/BE stack is mainly in Python, and we have a preference for React for the FE.
